If you're looking for games similar to Fortnite , the first thing you should know is what type of game you're looking for. Fortnite is a third-person, Battle Royale game where you must master the art of building to attack or defend yourself against an enemy. Although it may seem complicated at first, with a few tricks you can become a Fortnite expert.
Epic Games' title wasn't originally conceived as a battle royale when it launched in June 2017, but rather as a cooperative mission-based game called Save the World . A few months earlier, Tencent had released PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, better known as PUBG, a battle royale game that became a worldwide bestseller.
Three months after the launch of Fortnite: Save the World, Epic recognized the success of PUBG and launched a Battle Royale mode completely free of charge with in-app purchases that do not affect player skills, only aesthetics.
This new game mode attracted over 10 million players in its first two weeks, reaching almost 50 million by March 2018. The Save the World mode is still available, however, being a paid mode, it is not as widespread as Battle Royale.
What is a Battle Royale

The Battle Royale game mode is a video game genre that combines survival with player skill, as the last player standing wins the match . If it's a team game, the last team standing wins.
Players can freely choose their starting point using their parachute and without any weapons; they must find weapons to eliminate opponents. Furthermore, as the minutes pass, the playing area shrinks , gathering the remaining players in an increasingly smaller area and forcing them to move around the map and confront their enemies.
The origin of this video game genre can be found in the novel Battle Royale, by the Japanese writer Koushun Takami, a novel that became a bestseller and had a film adaptation with the same name.
PUBG - PlayerUnknow's Battlegrounds

But if we're talking about Battle Royale, we have to talk about PUBG, a game that launched on streaming in March 2017 , so it just celebrated its fourth anniversary. It's also available on PlayStation and Xbox, as well as iOS and Android. This title can be played in both first-person and third-person perspectives.
Despite not being a free game on PC, it has a price of 29,99 euros on Steam (the same price we can find it at on consoles), it quickly became a sales and user success, being to this day the best-selling PC video game with almost 45 million copies, above Minecraft, Diablo III and World of Warcraft.
PUBG offers four different maps (Erangel, Miramar, Sanhok, and Vikendi) that vary in size from 8x8 to 4x4 km. In addition to these fixed maps, there are other rotating maps such as Karakin, Paramo, and Haven, as well as others that are only available in the mobile version.
This game is one of the most difficult in this game mode because not only does it not show you where the shots are coming from, but also, the weapon controls are much more complicated than in other titles.
This is because PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is one of the most realistic games , where once you die, you can't respawn like in other titles such as Fortnite and Warzone. All the weapons in the game are real and accurately reflect recoil, rate of fire, and the damage they inflict on vests and helmets.
H1Z1

The first title to hit the video game market using the Battle Royale mode was H1Z1, a game that arrived on Steam in early access in 2015, but it wasn't until 2018 that the final version was released on both Steam and PS4.
Today, the game has such a small user community that matches that originally had 100 players have been reduced to 10 , and the combat zone has also shrunk to a bare minimum. The developers haven't figured out how to improve a title whose graphics and gameplay leave much to be desired.
Ring of Elysium

Ring of Elysium is another lesser-known Battle Royale game. Unlike other titles, the weather conditions in this game change constantly during matches, ranging from sunny days to heavy rain, as well as cloudy areas, thunderstorms, and extreme snowfall.
When moving around the map, we have four options: glider, motorcycle, grappling hook, or BMX (bicycle) . Each player has a series of tactical abilities such as holographic decoys, a biosignal detector, a stealth cloak, a deployable shield, a reconnaissance drone, and more. Making good use of these abilities can mean the difference between life and death.
The winning team isn't the last one standing, but the first one to board the rescue helicopter that reaches the final zone. This title has been available for free download on Steam since September 2018.
Call of Duty: War zone

Call of Duty: Warzone was one of the latest Battle Royale games to hit the market, launching in March 2020. However, today, along with Fortnite, it's one of the most popular games worldwide. Part of its success is due to the fact that it's completely free-to-play, with a few in-app purchases that only affect the appearance of weapons and players.
Upon landing, we're given a pistol. If we're eliminated during the match, we'll go to the Gulag, where defeating our opponent allows us to rejoin the game. If we lose, we'll be entirely dependent on the money our teammates can earn to redeploy on the map.
The money we earn throughout the game can be used not only to redeploy our partner, but also to buy shield plates, reconnaissance drones, weapon crates…
Unlike PUBG, Warzone is only playable in first-person. It's available for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox and includes cross-play, allowing you to play with players on other consoles and/or PCs . It's also available for mobile devices, but the map and gameplay are different, and there are no buy stations where you can purchase weapons drops.
Apex Legends

In January 2019, Apex Legends arrived on the market, a new first-person Battle Royale game that, unlike the rest of the titles (with the exception of Ring of Elysium), shows us a series of characters with different abilities that are classified as:
- Passive ability. Skill that does not require the intervention of the player, such as seeing the footsteps of the enemies, hearing a voice when they are pointing at us, running faster when they are pointing at us ...
- Tactical ability. This ability requires the intervention of the player and depending on the character, it allows us to scan enemies, shoot fumes, deploy gas traps, throw a hook, launch a drone that we can control, deploy shields and barriers ...
- Ultimate ability. The ultimate ability, as its name describes well, is the character's strongest ability, a skill that takes time to recharge, which differs between each character. Some of these skills are creating dimensional portals, launching air attacks or toxic gas bombs, putting zip lines, mounting a machine gun ...

This title is available for free on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch with cross-play functionality. There is currently no mobile version, but according to Respaw, the game's developer, they are working on it. It is available for free download on all platforms.
Each new season introduces a new character. As of April 2021, we have 16 different characters , which we can unlock using in-game currency purchases or points earned through gameplay.
Hyper scape

Ubisoft's take on the Battle Royale genre is called Hyper Scape, a title set in a futuristic city that pits 100 players against each other in a single match. The action takes place in 2054, where technology is ubiquitous.
Each character can use any abilities they find ; these abilities aren't tied to specific characters and allow us to revive fallen comrades. The winning team claims the crown and holds it for one minute without the enemy taking it.
This title is available for download completely free of charge and is available for PC , PlayStation and Xbox.
Realm Royale

Realm Royale is an interesting Battle Royale, similar to Apex Legends, where each character has special abilities and many compare it to a Battle Royale version of Overwatch.
Unlike this one, we can only play in third person , it is completely free and is available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch with crossplay.
Garena Free Fire

Free Fire is the latest survival game available exclusively for mobile devices. Each match lasts 10 minutes and places you on a remote island with 49 other players, all vying to survive.
This title offers the same gameplay as PUBG Mobile or Call of Duty Mobile, but with significantly improved graphics and character movements. It's only playable in third person and is available for free download.
