There are many things that are changing on Twitter since Elon Musk took over the reins of this popular social network. One of the decisions he has made has been to recover from the drawer an old account verification project called TwitterBlue. In this post we are going to explain what it is exactly about, because if you are a regular user you will be interested.
At the moment, Twitter Blue will only be accessible to users in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. And only for those who have mobile phones that work with the iOS operating system. In any case, keep reading because we will provide you with information about what, sooner or later, will also end up reaching our country.
The idea of verifying Twitter user accounts is a few years old. Everything goes back to the very beginnings of the social network and the appearance of accounts impersonating famous people. The intention was good, but the amount of work to achieve this goal was enormous, so the project was abandoned.
However, recover Twitter Blue It was one of the things that Elon Musk had in mind when he decided to buy Twitter. And now he is starting it up again, with the goal of bringing order (if that is possible) to this effervescent and complex social network.
Twitter Blue Features
The new Twitter Blue comes with new features, many more than those that were included in its first phase. These are some of the most interesting:
Customization options
First of all, we must highlight the possibility of customizing both the application icon such as account theme. This is a purely aesthetic function, which does not affect the content or the operation of our Twitter at all.
Other possibilities to shape our account according to our tastes and preferences are the Reading Mode, the option to create folders of saved elements from the profile itself, the edition of already published tweets and much more.
less advertising
It is an advantage of Twitter Blue that is worth assessing: subscribers will not have to endure the presence of so many ads in your TL.
blue check mark
This is perhaps the most important change to Twitter Blue, the one that gives it the true meaning: the blue check mark. The accounts that display it on their profiles will be verified by Twitter. That means they will be considered "active, notable, and authentic" accounts. A kind of guarantee seal.
Twitter also plans to create a new label to identify official accounts which will be perfectly compatible with this blue badge. The purpose of this is so that users can identify which accounts have been verified by subscribing to Twitter Blue and which are those belonging to public figures and accounts from governments or other organizations.
The launch of a golden label for official business accounts, verified by Twitter and safe for users.
Two user categories
Although the polls carried out by the social network itself indicate that the verified account label is a measure highly applauded by Twitter users, the truth is that there have also been many who have complained, arguing that it is a way of creating two different categories of user. A higher class and a lower class, with the consequent tensions between both groups.
And things can get even more complicated if finally, as contemplated by the new Twitter policy, six different types of accounts are established. But that is yet to come.
Criticism aside, the fact that only Twitter can award these verification blue tags is somehow an interesting incentive for users to engage more and create more content.
In addition, the verification mark is equivalent to a certificate of quality and veracity, although that (both before and after Elon Musk) will unfortunately always depend on the subjective criteria of the verifiers.
How much does Twitter Blue cost?
In its day, the price of this service was 4,99 euros. Now, it will be implemented by 7,99 Euros (although a price up to three times higher was leaked to the press) and will include some additional features only available to its subscribers.
For now, only the Twitter accounts older than 90 days with a confirmed phone number will be able to subscribe to Twitter Blue. When the new Twitter verification team reviews the account, they assign it the blue verification mark, a badge that can be lost if we make any changes to our profile. When that happens, you have to wait for a new verification.
It remains to be seen if, when Twitter Blue arrives in Europe and finally in Spain, the conditions and rates will be the same. We will be very attentive to everything that happens to be able to tell it here.
