Learn to block on Instagram users or even silence or restrict in a simple way. These methods may offer you some peace of mind when you do not see their content or that they cannot contact you in any way, it all depends on what you are looking for.
You should keep in mind that here we will not talk about anything complex or even that requires advanced knowledge, but you can define the best method for you, depending on the situation. In any case, in the next few lines you will discover how to block profiles on Instagram that you consider unwanted.
How to block on Instagram
This method is very simple and we can do it from our mobile application, desktop application or even from the web browser of the computer. In case you don't know the method yet, I will explain it to you step by step. You should know that for the example, I will use the web browser.
- Sign in to your Instagram account. To do this you need your credentials, such as phone number, email or username. Obviously, you also require your password associated with the account.
- Once inside we can search for the user we want to block by their username, for this we will use the platform's search engine. In case you don't remember the user, you can search in the interactions or messages that they have sent you.
- When entering the profile of the account you want to block, at the top of the screen, you will find three points aligned horizontally, enter by clicking.
- After pressing, a pop-up menu will appear with three options. In this case we will click on “Block".
- As a security measure, Instagram will ask if you are sure you want to block the user. If we make the decision, we must click on “Block”. Otherwise, click on “Cancel” and the process will be reversed immediately.
Remember that when you block a profile, it will not receive any notification of what you just did, but they will not be able to interact in any way with your content.
How to mute on Instagram

If the lock seems a bit extreme, you have the option to mute, lto which is provided within the policies of Instagram. Doing it is very similar to what we just did with blocking, but just in case, I'll explain step by step how to do it, but this time with less detail.
- Log in to your Instagram account. Remember that it is necessary to have your credentials at hand.
- You must go to the platform search engine, which you can find with a small magnifying glass. If you are in the browser, it will appear in the left column, while if you are in the app, it will be at the bottom.
- Type the name of the profile or account you want to mute. When you find it, click on it to enter the profile.
- Now we will not look for the options button as we did before, you must click on the word "Following”, located next to the profile username. It's important to keep in mind that if you don't follow the account, you won't be able to mute it.
- A pop-up window will offer you new options, being of our interest at the moment, “Silence".
- When we click, it will give us two options, which will ask us for information if we want to mute the stories or the posts. This time I will silence only the stories. To do this, I will click on the option and then on the button “Save".
- The only thing that will indicate that the process was completed satisfactorily is a bar in the lower area that says "Saved".
Similar to blocking, Instagram will not inform the muted user that you did so.
If you want to reverse the mute process, you must repeat what you did previously, but this time removing the green check next to the publications and stories, to later save again.
How to Restrict on Instagram

Restricting is a very simple process that is done almost the same as blocking, you must keep it in mind. In the same way I will guide you step by step in case you feel insecure when doing so.
- Enter your Instagram account, it does not matter if you do it from your mobile or computer.
- With the help of the search engine, find the profile you want to restrict and enter it.
- Find the options menu again, represented by three horizontally aligned dots.
- When you click, 3 options will be displayed, the one of our interest currently being, “Restrict".
- Once you click, Instagram will explain how the restriction works, leaving us to accept only, for this you must click on the word "Restrict".
If you want to undo the restriction, you can repeat the above process, but lifting the option that keeps content interactions at bay. It's really very easy to do. I recommend you keep the username present for when you want to change the option.
Difference Between Mute, Restrict and Block on Instagram
You already know how to silence, restrict and block profiles on Instagram, but you really know what function each of these operations has. Do not worry, I will explain it to you in a very brief way.
Silencing is the smoothest process, for giving a hierarchy to the processes described above. Simply, it prevents you from seeing the content of a profile in the stories or even its publications appear on your timeline, everything will depend on you. Here you do not remove the user from those you follow and it does not show a notification, you simply do not see its content.
Restrict, on the other hand, it's a bit more rigid process, which prevents the account you are restricting from being able to openly comment on your posts, requiring your approval for others to see it. Also, all the direct messages that I send you will not go directly to the inbox, but to Requests. Here they will not be able to know if you read it unless you want it. This option does not delete the profile of your followers or followers.
For its part, the blocking represents the maximum restrictive process that we can carry out to other accounts and profiles within Instagram. By blocking, you unfollow the user, as well as remove the tracking of your content. On the other hand, this user will not be able to see your content, send you messages or leave comments. In a general way, you close all possibility of interaction between his account and yours.
