How to calibrate the battery of your Android mobile

calibrate battery android phone

When a smartphone is relatively new, the battery usually doesn't cause any problems. However, with the passage of time, we may begin to encounter situations that cannot be puzzled and worried: the load percentages dance inexplicably, dropping suddenly or showing an unreal figure. That's when it becomes necessary calibrate the battery of your Android mobile.

In this post we are going to focus on calibration methods. A series of tips and tricks that we can apply so as not to receive erroneous information from our phone and control the state of the battery at all times.

Before addressing the issue, we will briefly explain how the battery and the mobile "communicate" to show us the charge percentage, that very useful piece of information that notifies you when the time to recharge is approaching and that helps us to plan our daily activities when not there are recharging possibilities nearby.

The remaining battery percentage is calculated using a series of algorithms based on several parameters: the capacity of the battery, the time it remains plugged in and the maximum charge point. Thus, the figure we see on the screen is really reliable. But when the algorithm fails, that displayed percentage is not real. The most typical case is when we see that we have, for example, 20% battery and, a minute later, the mobile inexplicably turns off.

Why does the mobile battery stop being calibrated?

The reasons why our mobile's battery is no longer correctly calibrated are almost always related to its wear and tear and a series of bad habits when recharging it.

Given the first, there is little we can do: no matter how high the quality of our device is, since time inexorably passes for everything; As for the second, there are some things that we can do. These are some tips so that the mobile battery is always calibrated:

  • Avoid fast charging processes.
  • Try that our mobile is not subjected to too high temperatures (see How to cool your mobile to the right temperature).
  • Do not use a charger other than the one that corresponds to our mobile model, although it seems that it is the same, it is not.
  • Let the battery level drop below 5%-10% (the optimal stretch should be between 40% and 80%).
  • Prevent viruses and malware from entering our phone by visiting suspicious websites or downloading unreliable files.

When mobiles had removable batteries, calibration failures occurred quite often. These days, with built-in batteries found in almost all makes and models, this happens less frequently. However, we are not completely exempt from this risk.

Calibrate the mobile battery step by step

This is the most appropriate method to recalibrate the battery of an Android mobile, a process that is worth doing with some regularity. Apple recommends its users to do it once a month. Maybe that's excessive, but it might be advisable to do them a couple of times a year.

El method, which we explain below, is a bit long, but it works. It consists of carrying out a series of loads and downloads:

  1. First we must charge our mobile until it reaches 100%. Then we leave the cable plugged in charging for another hour or two.
  2. Next, we start using the mobile and let the hours go by until it completely discharges and turns off.
  3. Once turned off, you have to let the mobile rest without plugging in. Forget about him for at least five hours.
  4. After this time, we charge the mobile until it reaches 100%, but without using it at all. Afterwards, we wait another hour before turning it on and starting to use it.

Completing these four steps correctly can take us almost a whole day, but after that we will have managed to calibrate the battery of an Android mobile, which will no longer give us unpleasant surprises.

If problems persist, the battery is probably too damaged and no longer respond properly to the calibration process. If we have mistreated our smartphone or it is already quite a few years old, it is something that we cannot avoid.

But if our mobile is relatively young (two years or less), it is almost certain that the error is not due to a deteriorated battery, but to a faulty one. In this case, you should contact the manufacturer and request a repair. If we are lucky that our device is still under warranty, the problem can be solved like this.

Applications to calibrate the mobile battery

Finally, we will discuss a rather controversial solution, but that some users use to calibrate the battery of their Android mobile. It must be said that many experts are wary of this type of applicationsquestioning its effectiveness. In any case, here are some suggestions:
