How to remove a device on HBO

The arrival of streaming platforms has brought about a revolution in many homes: we no longer watch television as we did before. One of its many advantages is being able to view content from the same platform on different devices. In this post we will focus on HBO Max, more specifically on how to manage and remove a device on HBO.

There is a limit to the number of devices that can connect to HBO Max. This maximum varies according to each platform, and in this case it is five: Smart TV, Apple TV, mobile phones, Chromecast, consoles, tablets... Enough for an average home. However, when there are many connectable devices at home, there is no choice but to choose some and discard others.

Before getting into the matter, it is necessary to make a clarification: the number of devices that can be connected is not the same as the number of devices on which content can be played simultaneously. Some of the most popular platforms, such as for example Netflix, they do not put obstacles with respect to the first, but they do in the reproduction at the same time of the same content.

Well, these limits do not exist in the case at hand. Originally, when HBO Max arrived in our country a couple of years ago (on October 26, 2021), it was only possible to connect a maximum of five devices. But this restriction was subsequently removed.

But until that happened, users were left with no choice but to choose. So it was imperative to know how to remove an HBO device. And now? What reasons would we have to carry out this operation? Perhaps you have not stopped to think about the reasons, but there are some cases in which we might need to do so. For example these:

• Delete a suspicious or foreign device from the list of connected devices. It would not be the first time that someone accesses our keys without permission to be able to enjoy the contents of the platform without paying.
• Delete a device of a friend or acquaintance to whom we have given permission to use our HBO Max account, but with whom, for whatever reason, we no longer wish to share it. It must be remembered that, in its terms and conditions, HBO does not expressly prohibit account sharing with other people, it is only limited to notifying us that the access data is for personal use.

That is why it is always recommended periodically review the list of connected devices. Sometimes we come across surprises. It is also very prudent to change the access password from time to time. Whatever our particular situation, this is how we can perform this removal:

Remove an HBO device

Below we explain how to remove a device on HBO from the computer and from the mobile phone. Please note that once the process is complete, it may take up to 4 hours for the removed device to disappear from the list.

From the computer

These are the steps to follow:

1. First, we open a browser window and go to the HBO Max website.
2. Alli we started session with our account.
3. Then we select our profile, whose icon is located in the upper right corner of the screen.
4. We chose the option "Manage Devices".
5. Finally, in the list that appears, we select the one we want to delete by clicking on the symbol "X".

(*) In this step we also have the option to log out of all devices. This function is very practical in the case of having logged in on a device that is not ours and we have forgotten to log out later.

From mobile phone

To remove an HBO device from a smartphone, this is what we must do:

1. We open the HBO Max app on our smartphone or tablet.
2. Click on the icon profile.
3. We log in with our access data.
4. We select the menu "Setting".
5. There we go to the option "Manage Devices".
6. In the list of connected devices shown below, we choose the one we want to delete and click on the "X".

Similar to the method to remove HBO devices from your computer, you can also log out of all devices in the “Manage Devices” tab.
