Now, remember that in order to use a song as a ringtone you must have it stored on your mobile. On Android, it must be in MP3 format. In this sense, there is no problem, since it is the format in which audios are normally downloaded. But, on iPhone, you will have to convert the song format to one that the Apple system supports. Generally, change the ringtone of calls, notifications or alarms on an Android phone is not very complicated. In fact, These terminals have different methods to get it. On the one hand, you can do it from the mobile settings. Secondly, you have the option of using the music app. And finally, it is possible to do it with third-party applications. Let's analyze each of the options.

From mobile settings

Here we show you the Steps to set a song as a ringtone from the settings on an Android phone:

  1. Enter the Settings or Settings app.
  2. Tap on the Sound and vibration option.
  3. Now play Tone.
  4. Click on “Choose a local ringtone”.
  5. Select where you want the ringtone from, be it recorder, music or the file manager.
  6. Choose the song you want and tap “Accept”.
  7. Finally, click on “Apply” and that's it.

From the music app

The second way to change the ringtone of your Android for a song is to do it directly from the Music app. To achieve this, do the following:

  1. Go to the Music app.
  2. Tap on the name of the song you want.
  3. Click on the three dots at the top right.
  4. Tap on the “Ringtone Editor” option.
  5. Now select the part of the song you want for your ringtone.
  6. Finally, tap on “Set as ringtone” and that's it.

We see that with this method something changes: we can choose the part of the song that we want to play when they call us. Now, keep in mind that if you choose a very short extract, it will be repeated several times while they call you. However, do not forget that you can also choose the full song so that it rings from the beginning until you answer the call.

With third-party apps

In case you don't like any of the previous options, or if they don't work for you, you can use a third-party app. In the Play Store you will find different free options such as Ringtone Maker. These applications allow you to create ringtones with the music files or recordings you have on your mobile.

How to set a ringtone song on iPhone

Setting a song as a ringtone is also possible if you have an iPhone. Only in this case the process is slightly longer. Because? Basically, because the option is not completely visible. In fact, with the first option you need to have a PC or Mac with iTunes installed and make some small changes to the song format.

The format you need is m4r, which is the only file extension allowed to be used as a ringtone on iPhone. But there is not nothing to worry! Below, we show you all the necessary procedure so that you have your favorite song as a ringtone in a few minutes.

The first thing you should do is make sure you have iTunes on your computer. Once in iTunes, follow these steps to trim the song:

  1. Go to Songs and locate the song.
  2. Right click on the song and choose Song Info.
  3. Now, tap Options and choose the start and end of part of the song you want to use (it can only be 30 seconds).
  4. Once the song extract has been saved, you have to change the format.
  5. Select the song and tap File > Convert > Create AAC Version.

The next thing you will have to do is convert the format of the saved song. iTunes conversion generates m4a files, but for calls you need m4r. For it, rename extension from m4a to m4r.

Send the file

Your tone is almost ready. In fact, you can see it in iTunes if you go to the Ringtones section, it's just not on your phone yet. Therefore, what you should do is send the Ringtone to your iPhone by syncing iTunes on both devices. It shouldn't take long for the new ringtone to appear on your phone.

Set the song as ringtone

The last step is set the new ringtone to play when someone calls you. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the Settings of your iPhone.
  2. Go to the Sounds and Vibrations section.
  3. Tap on Ringtone.
  4. Swipe until you find the song you just created.
  5. Tap on it and that's it. This will be set as your ringtone from that moment on.

Now in case you want do everything from your mobile without using your computer, the other option is to download a couple of applications on your iPhone. One is called Ringtones Maker and the other is GarageBand. To do this, you must have the song you want to use previously downloaded in your files. Once done, follow these steps:

  1. Enter Ringtones Maker and tap the “+” button.
  2. Tap More > Import from file.
  3. Select the song.
  4. Tap on the song and click on Trim.
  5. Cut the song to about 30 seconds and tap Done.
  6. Give it a name to locate it easily.
  7. Now tap “Make” to import it into GarageBand.
  8. Tap on the little arrow in the corner and choose “My songs.”
  9. Then, long press the song and tap Share.
  10. Select Ringtone > Continue > Export > Ok.
  11. Finally, go to Settings > Sounds & vibrations > Ringtone and choose the song you just created.
  12. Ready. This way you will have the ringtone song on your iPhone without a computer.
