What are we going to need?
Addition computer, which must be minimally powerful so that the compatibility between the system and the game is as great as possible, we will need:
- Two USB sticks. One of at least 8GB capacity for the Recalbox operating system and the other to store all the games. Logically, the bigger this is, the more games will fit.
- Keyboard from which to boot Recalbox.
- USB driver to be able to play from the keyboard.
Configure Bootable Recalbox USB
First of all, we must download the appropriate Recalbox image for our system. For that we have to know if our computer is 32 or 64 bits and get the corresponding image. After downloading it, we must transfer it to the USB that we are going to use for Recalbox. For that we can use some specific programs such as Etcher.
Run Recalbox on Windows 10
Method that also works for Windows 11. The process is simple. After turning on the computer and letting it boot normally, follow these steps:
- Let's go to settings menu, accessing it from the Start button and pressing the gear icon.
- In Settings, we click "Update & Security".
- Next, we select the option "Recovery" shown on the left.
- Let «Advanced start», where we click the button "Restart now".
- A blue screen will appear with some options. You have to select "Trouble shoot" (Troubleshooting) and then "Advanced Options".
- To finish, we click on “UEFI FirmwareSettings” and we are going to "Restart".

But now let's go to what has brought us here: How to put games in Recalbox? From the outset, after the installation we will already have a few built-in games. But surely we will want many more.
In principle, the installation process is quite simple, since it is enough to copy the files of the games that we have obtained* in the corresponding folders. And where are these folders? We find them in this location:
\\recalbox\share\roms\
Since we have the games on our hard drive, it will be necessary to first access the above address and copy the ROMs. The procedure may vary slightly depending on the type of emulator and its version. In this link you can consult all the versions of the emulators contained in Recalbox.
Games (ROMs) can also be easily added with Windows File Explorer using a second USB. This is how you do it:
- When running Recalbox, you have to connect the second USB to the PC.
- Then we press START on the controller, which opens the main menu.
- In this menu, we look for "System Settings" and within your options, "Storage device". There you have to locate the second USB.
- Finally, we return to the Main Menu, press "Go out" and turn off the PC.
