Taking screenshots is the order of the day. Either to have evidence of a conversation that can be deleted; to capture an image or simply to capture an error or some data that we will need later. On Apple mobile devices, performing these types of actions is quite easy. AND we are going to teach you how to take screenshots in iOS.
Over the years, iPhone and iPad models have changed. What's more, within the Apple catalog there are many models and their form factor, although they are similar, differ in some aspects and this will cause the screenshots to be taken in different ways. That is why we are going to review all of them and we will explain in detail how to take screenshots. And, in the end, where can you find all of them and what exactly can you do.
How to take screenshots in iOS with an iPhone that has a Home button
The first iPhones, before they had Face ID or Touch ID, had a physical button on the front that pressing it always returned to the home screen of the iPhone or iPad. Well, the combination that we must do in these models is press –simultaneously– that Home button and the on/off button. You will verify that the capture is made because a small sound will sound as a photo.
Likewise, there were models (up to the iPhone 5 or the iPhone SE) that had the on/off button on the top of the chassis, while the models from the iPhone 6 to the present, that button is on the side.
How to take screenshots in iOS with an iPhone that has Touch ID
Other models that we find on the market are those that have the previous physical Home button, the Touch ID fingerprint reader that would make iPhones unlock when verifying the identity of the user.
Well, the method to follow with these models is identical to the previous case; that is to say: simultaneously press the button with Touch ID and the on/off button and quickly release. The thumbnail of that capture will appear at the bottom of the screen, allowing the user to edit it, discard it –by moving their finger to the side–, as well as save it directly to the photo roll.
How to take screenshots on iOS with an iPhone that has Face ID
While the form factor of the latest models began to discard a central button to give more prominence to the touch screen and reduce the size of the equipment a bit, a new way to unlock the terminals was also included: with Face ID. That is, through facial recognition of the user.
Therefore, in the case of wanting to take a screenshot on these computers, a new pattern had to be followed. And in these cases - this will work until the most recent iPhone 14 - the sequence is Simultaneously press the volume up buttons and the on/off button.
What happens with iPads and an extra way to take screenshots
Although the iPad has been with its own iPadOS operating system for some years -a version of iOS adapted for tablets-, the screenshots on these devices are quite similar to what already happens with the iPhone. That is to say, models with a physical 'Home' button or Touch ID must simultaneously press that button and the on/off button. While the iPad models that count with Face ID they will have to resort to the volume up button and the on/off button.
iPads with Apple Pencil support have an extra way to take screenshots
Likewise, all those iPad models that can use Apple Pencil -in its two variants-, you can take screenshots in a different way. As? Well, you must configure this gesture in the iPad settings by entering Settings>Apple Pencil and look for the options that indicate 'Pencil gestures'. You will have two options to choose from: take a screenshot or make a quick note.
Once the bottom two corners of the iPad are set up, Swiping the Apple Pencil from that corner to the center of the screen will automatically take a screenshot that you can later edit as soon as the thumbnail appears.
Where are screenshots saved on iPhone/iPad
After the thumbnails of all the screenshots you have taken appear, you must click on them and carry out your edit or save it to keep it. When you hit the 'OK' button, different options will appear:
- Save to Photos
- Save to Files
- Save as Sticky Note
- copy and delete
- Delete screenshot -you can also do this if you slide the thumbnail to the side-
Well, by choosing one of the options, you will know where to save all the screenshots. What's more, usually are usually saved in the Photos app album. Now, if you want to create a dedicated folder in 'Files', it is a way to find them much faster and have everything more organized.
Likewise, by saving them in 'Photos' you will have the option of having them at hand anywhere. Because? Well because you can use iCloud. Photos is one of the apps that syncs with Apple's cloud storage system. While the documents and files that you have locally -on the computer itself- in 'Files', no. Of course, you can always create a folder in iCloud Drive -which does synchronize with iCloud- and rescue the screenshots either on a computer, on the iPad, iPhone or through a web browser.
What you can do with iPhone or iPad screenshots
As we have already mentioned, once you take the screenshot, you will be able to interact with them when the thumbnails appear in one of the corners of the screen. In this way, the capture will appear in the foreground and you will be offered the different editing options: to be able to retouch the measurements of the image; add text or symbols; underline some text; sign a document, etc.
Meanwhile, these captures, in addition to saving them in your photo library, you can also share them, print them and everything you need to do with them.
