WhatsApp has changed its conditions of use following European regulations and users who want to continue using the application must accept them. Among the updates, the interoperability of the app stands out, changes the minimum age to use the platform and data transfer.
These new developments come into force today and WhatsApp has sent notifications to users indicating what happened. Let's take a closer look at what these changes have been and how they affect the usability of the app.
New conditions of use on WhatsApp
Meta has come into line with European regulations by changing its conditions of use. Let us remember that the Digital Markets Law (DMA) has required the company to interoperate WhatsApp with other apps. This has been one of the most significant changes to its usage policies, but it is not the only one. Let's see what other conditions we have to accept:
- WhatsApp interoperability means that the platform will be able to manage messages from other messaging apps such as Telegram or Signal.
- La Minimum age to use WhatsApp has increased from 16 to 13 years. However, the application has not reported the mechanisms to verify that users comply with this requirement.
- Finally, it has changed the international data transfer mechanism. For users residing within Europe, they will be governed by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. This process will not interfere with end-to-end encryption.
Users will receive a notification from WhatsApp indicating that they must accept these changes to continue using the app. Otherwise, they must unsubscribe from the platform and for them the message will include a link direct to delete your profile.
