How to give up online electoral propaganda

How to give up online electoral propaganda

With each new electoral process that begins, the propaganda related to this type of democratic ceremonies originates the distribution of numerous advertisements, posters and incentives that seek to encourage citizens to participate in certain elections. While these are often informative, in many cases they are supportive of certain groups. Therefore, they can be annoying for many, in addition to the fact that electoral propaganda can become invasive and massive in certain cases.

This, in general, uses the mail as one of its main means to make itself known. Fortunately, it is possible to renounce it in order to stop receiving it, and here we explain how.

Until not long ago, you could not stop receiving electoral propaganda by your own decision. It was in 2019 when this changed and the option was given to renounce this. This is how the mailboxes of millions of citizens stopped being filled with what could be annoying emails. In this way, people can now have more freedom of decision about whether they want to be part of this or not, for whatever reason.

So you can stop receiving electoral propaganda online

Stop receiving election propaganda

To stop receiving electoral propaganda at home, You simply have to follow the following steps that we dictate below, but first we go to the INE and its definition, since it is a fundamental part of this process, as it is the entity that will allow us to renounce electoral propaganda.

The INE, which is also broken down as National Statistical Institute of Spain, is the one with which we can request and carry out the necessary procedure to carry out the resignation of electoral propaganda, since it is the public entity in charge of regulating the electoral processes and issuing the regulations that are related to them. This can be done through their website. And it is that in this it expresses the following:

«This procedure allows the completion via the web of the request for exclusion/inclusion in the copies of the electoral census that are delivered to the representatives of the candidacies to send electoral propaganda by mail.

The exclusions requested until the thirteenth day after the call for an electoral process will have effects in said process and in all subsequent ones, as long as the voter does not state otherwise.»

The first thing to do is go to the INE website through this link. You must first have a digital certificate, such as the one included in the electronic National Identification Document or the one that can be requested from the FNMT. The permanent or temporary Cl@ve also works for this.

As we pointed out at the beginning, Giving up Spain's online electoral propaganda will mean that we won't get any more emails about it. This will be the case until the inclusion in it is requested again. However, if this procedure is carried out when an electoral process has already begun, it is possible that in those elections you will still receive electoral propaganda related to the different political parties that participate in said election process.
