translate whatsapp

Many WhatsApp users use this application to work or interact with people from different countries who speak different languages. Diversity is wonderful, but sometimes it can lead to great chaos. A truly Babel Tower. Luckily, there are some tricks that can help us make everything flow the way we want. In this post we explain how to translate voice and text notes while chatting on WhatsApp, so that communication is the best possible.

Learning to manage this and other resources can make a huge difference when it comes to communicating. We must not forget that WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging applications in the world, which is why it is relatively common to find ourselves in the situation of having to communicate with people with whom we do not share the language.

The tool to translate voice and text notes on WhatsApp is an invaluable resource for break language barriers and achieve simple and effective communication. Something that until now users did not have.

Some users have used the option change WhatsApp language thinking that with that they found the solution to the problem. Obviously, this is not the case. By doing this, the only thing that is achieved is that the language of the menus changes, but no active translation of the messages is carried out.

This is how the "live" translator works

Go ahead than this function It is only available in google phones (starting with Google Pixel 6). A solution to translate a complete WhatsApp chat in a matter of seconds, without having to leave the application. We talk about the Google Live Translate feature. Below we explain how to enable it and then how to use it:

Enable Google Live Translate

translate whatsapp messages

  1. The first step is to open the application Configuration of our Pixel phone.
  2. Let "System" and, from there, to the section «Live Translate».
  3. Alli we enable the switch shown at the top and (optionally) select the translation target language by default.

Use Google Live Translate

  1. We open the WhatsApp chat with the messages to be translated. When messages are detected in a language other than the system language, a message will appear on the screen (on which we must click).
  2. We download the language pack corresponding to this message.
  3. With this, all chat messages in this language will be automatically translated.

The most outstanding feature when using this method is its immediacy. It allows us to translate almost at the same time as we chat, without wasting time. Almost like a normal conversation between two people in the same language.

Needless to say, how practical and convenient this resource is. It saves us a lot of time and manual work. Almost as if our Google Pixel phone has a built-in WhatsApp chat translator.

Other methods to translate voice and text notes on WhatsApp

There are other alternative formulas not so sophisticated to translate text messages on WhatsApp. These involve using tools that we all already know: Google Translate and the virtual keyboard GBoard. The first is a little less agile than the second, as we will see in the following paragraphs. We are going to explain how to use these resources to achieve our goal:

Google Translate

Google translate

Google Translate is a practical application that many people use daily. This gives us the most basic way to translate our WhatsApp messages. It works well, although it is not very suitable if we have many messages or conversations to translate, since we are talking about manual work. It is also possible to use an alternative translation application of our choice, although this one is quite good.

To use this solution, we have no choice but to manually copy and paste all the messages in the application, which, depending on the volume of messages, can be really cumbersome. However, it is perfectly suitable for carrying out occasional translations. Is that how it works:

  1. The first thing to do is download the Google Translate app from the Play Store (or from Apple Store, if we use an iPhone).
  2. Once we have installed the application on our device, we open the WhatsApp conversation to which we want to apply the translation.
  3. Then we copy the message to be translated.
  4. Then we open the Google Translate application on our mobile. There we select the language of the copied text and the language to which we want to translate it.
  5. Finally, we paste the copied text into the text field and this will appear automatically translated into the selected language.

The most interesting thing about this option is that we can use the microphone so that Google Translate "listens" to the voice notes WhatsApp and translate them. Very practical as well as reliable.

An additional trick that we can use and which will give better results is to open two screens of Google Translate, using one to translate the messages we receive and the other to translate those we generate.

GBoard

gboard

Many people use the Google keyboard app, Gboard, which already comes pre-installed on most Android phones. This offers us a perhaps a little more agile way to carry out our translations on WhatsApp, or at least a little less cumbersome. The negative point is that it will not help us translate voice notes. Let's see how it works:

  1. First, if you do not already have it installed, you must download the app. It is available on both Android and iPhone.
  2. Then you have to configure Gboard as input method.
  3. Then we go to the WhatsApp chat that contains the messages to translate and We copy the message.
  4. We touch the text field to open Gboard and click on the small arrow to the right on the side to appear more options.
  5. Now we select the built-in translation option, in the text box, we choose the language to which we want to translate the text.
  6. Finally, we press and hold the text box so that the option to paste the copied text appears. We select "Paste" and the translated message will be displayed.
